At the ceremony, the People’s Government of Huaihua City donated 2,000 kilograms of hybrid rice seeds to the Republic of Malawi.
This 10-day training course will be a combination of theories, practical operation and on-site teaching. 10 agricultural technical personnel from Malawi will be instructed in modern pig production, pig disease prevention and control, poultry disease prevention and control, cattle and sheep disease prevention and control, poultry production, cattle and sheep production, Zhijiang duck production and processing, animal nutrition and feed, and Jietan tea production technology on the site.
The Republic of Malawi is located in southeastern Africa. In the friendly exchanges between China and Africa, Malawi has played a critical role. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have continuously deepened cooperation in many fields such as politics, economy and culture. In September 2024, during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, the heads of the two countries announced the elevation of bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.
This training was organized by Huaihua Vocational & Technical College. The college has extensively carried out international cooperation and exchanges. Focusing on hybrid rice international training and cultural exchanges, it has trained more than 300 agricultural technology and management talents for over 40 countries in Africa, Latin America, Central Asia and ASEAN and along the Belt and Road and sent more than 10 agricultural experts to Guinea, Timor Leste, Ethiopia, Antigua, Barbuda and other countries to carry out agricultural technology foreign aid projects.
“This training and donation of hybrid rice seeds fully demonstrate the profound friendship and cooperation between Malawi and China,” said Harris Stuarts Potani, Consul General of Malawi in Changsha. This is one of the achievements of China-Africa cooperation under the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. It also demonstrates China and Malawi’s joint pursuit of a better future. The donated hybrid rice seeds are expected to completely change the rice cultivation industry in Malawi.
“Through systematic learning of China’s experience in livestock system integration, technological innovation and best practices, we firmly believe that we will inject new impetus into our work,” said Anisi Banda, a representative of the Malawian students, who feels greatly honored to witness the increasingly close bilateral ties between the two countries. This training manifests the strategic partnership between the two countries. It is firmly believed that the training course will open a new chapter of cooperation between the two sides in agriculture and other fields.
