A documentary on Mayang Zhubaguai cured pork was broadcasted by CCTV on February 25, 2005, which has improved the profile of Mayang Zhubaguai cured pork in China.
Zhubaguai cured pork is mainly produced in Guogongping Town, Mayang County. Guogongping Town borders with Yangtou Town in Tongren City of Guizhou Province. For centuries, with free-range pig farming, the Miao people living in the town raise high-quality meat, which will be used to make cured pork with salt and other condiments. The preserved pork enjoys national fame for its tempting appearance as well as unique and delicate taste. Guogongping Town has employed localized strategies to develop the cured pork industry to expand the market share. In November 2004, Zhubaguai cured pork was awarded the gold medal at the fourth Hunan Agricultural Fair. The town then registered the “Zhubaguai” trademark and has set more than 20 sales outlets in Chongqing, Changsha, Guangzhou and other cities, covering more than 20 provinces and cities across the country.
