The soil and climate conditions of Mayang County are particularly suitable for watermelon growth. For many years, Mayang has vigorously developed the planting of new and superior watermelon varieties, relying on natural conditions and local advantages. Mayang seedless watermelons are widely praised by the market for their thin skin, juicy flesh, and sweet taste. The county has planted watermelons on about 2,700 hectares of land, and is expected to achieve an annual output of 60,000 tons with revenues of 80 million yuan. Mayang seedless watermelons are not only popular in Hunan Province, but also occupy a considerable market share in Guizhou, Chongqing, Yunnan, Guangdong and Guangxi. Some are exported to the Hong Kong SAR, the Macau SAR and Southeast Asian countries.
