On August 26, a launch ceremony was held for the Huaihua International Land Port – Huitong Port. The official opening of Huitong Port will extend its reach across nine counties spanning the border regions of Hunan, Guizhou, and Guangxi, injecting new momentum into the inland region's drive to "strengthen itself through maritime connectivity”.
Covering an area of 350 mu (approx. 23.3 hectares), Huitong Port began construction in October 2023 and commenced operations in late July 2026. It is designed with an initial annual freight throughput capacity of 2.6 million tons, with a long-term capacity reaching 4.22 million tons. The port serves as a vital extension of the Huaihua International Land Port and a key logistics support node for its southern zone. Currently, the warehouses and the comprehensive service building have been completed, and the smart warehousing project is accelerating.
The opening of Huitong Port marks Huitong County's transition from an inland mountainous area to the forefront of opening-up. It establishes a direct railway transport channel for local specialty industries—such as bamboo and wood products, and luggage and bags—effectively lowering logistics costs for enterprises and turning the vision of "mountain goods reaching global markets" into reality. Executives from export companies like Xiangtong Industrial noted that products can be loaded onto trains immediately after rolling off the production line; by accessing international freight trains via a dedicated spur line right at their doorstep, "every penny saved translates into competitiveness in the international market."
Moving forward, Huaihua International Land Port will work closely with Huitong County to fully integrate Huitong Port into the land port’s systems for freight train services, customs clearance, and policy support, while sharing channel resources. Efforts will continue to optimize logistics services, strengthen road-rail intermodal transport, and empower local enterprises to expand markets and seize opportunities.
