In recent years, Zhijiang has been expanding the planting of alpine grapes in Dashu’ao, Yanggongmiao and Muyexi. The planting area of alpine grapes in Zhijiang totals more than 533 hectares, among which, that of Dashu’ao Village reaches 200 hectares with an annual output of 1.25 million kilograms.
Zhijiang alpine grapes were first planted in the mountainous areas. After years of careful cultivation, three varieties with the average yield of 2,000 kilograms per mu have been developed by local grape farmers. According to the Research Institute of Pomology of Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the varieties have a sugar content of 16% -18%. At present, the grapes are in short supply and mainly sold to Xinhuang County, Mayang County, Changsha City, Guizhou Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
