Youzhuang Manor, a famous mountain resort just four kilometers away from the county seat, provides integrated attraction for sight-seeing, entertainment, fruit and vegetable picking, accommodation and catering. A large number of peach trees are planted in the manor and their abundantly-secreted resin is used to make a local delicacy: peach gum soup.
Known as the tears of peach blossom, peach gum is the reddish-brown or yellow-brown resin from peach trees, already solidified when it is found. As detailed in classical Chinese medical literature, its curative qualities include solving urinal infections, thirst-quenching and relieving stress.
The peach gum is softened beforehand by being soaked in clean water for 8 to 12 hours. Once the impurities are gone, it can be cooked together with water and rock sugar for 60 minutes. Goji berries can be added for the last 10-minute cooking.
Peach gum soup of Youzhuang Manor is crystal clear, fragrant and pure in taste, and is praised as a gift of nature and a rare delicacy.
