In September 1972, when Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka visited China, he talked with Premier Zhou Enlai about his impression of Jietan tea.
Jietan tea is produced in Yuanling County in the western part of Hunan Province, and was created in the Tang Dynasty. Because Yuanling was under the jurisdiction of Chenzhou Prefecture in ancient times, this tea also originated from Jietan Mountain in Yuanling County, it is named after its excellent qualities such as “fragrant and elegant, strong taste, and sweet aftertaste”, and was once listed as “tribute tea” and was exported to Japan, India and other countries. Enjoying a great reputation at home and abroad, Jietan tea has been awarded the title of “Chinese Famous Tea”.
