Chenxi Ci Ba is a special delicacy of Chenxi with a long history. In Xiangxi, especially in the rural areas of Chenxi, there is such a custom that on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, both married and unmarried men should send a gift to their father-in-law or prospective father-in-law (which is called Song Lan by local people). Among the gifts, in addition to cigarettes, sugar, wine and meat, there is another indispensable gift--Ci Ba. Stew the fresh leaves of Chinese mugwort in water until they are tender and black, and then ladle them together with glutinous rice flour. The longer the ladle time is, the more delicate the glutinous rice cake will be with a better texture. After kneading it into small balls and wrapping the sugar-mixed sesame powder or soybean powder in the center of the balls, flatten them and wrap them with Tung leaves, steaming them until they are well-cooked. The cooked glutinous rice cake, stripped of Tung leaves, is as big as a child's fist, black and bright. The mouth was full of fragrance after a bite, and with sweet and soft taste, it leads to endless aftertaste.
