Wenfeng Tower, also known as Cone Tower, is located on Baiyan Hill, two kilometers southeast of Jingzhou county seat. Its construction began in the 49th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign (1783) of the Qing Dynasty and was completed in the 4th year of Emperor Jiaqing’s reign (1799). Standing qon the summit of Baiyan Hill for 170 years after its completion, the tower remained intact until it was demolished during the Cultural Revolution. In 2000, the county government rebuilt the tower and set up the Wenfeng Tower Scenic Area through a government-led and market-oriented approach, which covers an area of 150 hectares, featuring a main park that emphasizes traditional Confucian culture, complemented by five sub-parks that showcase Buddhist culture, loyalty and righteousness, joy and wellness, bamboo products, and folklore. Within the scenic area, there are over 300 attractions of various sizes, embodying the architectural styles of Jiangnan (south of the Yangtze River area) gardens and local folklore. It has been rated as a national 3A tourist attraction.
