The former residence of general Su Yu is located in Fengmu Village, Pingcun Town, Huitong County. It covers an area of 42 hectares, 8 kilometers away from the county seat, 1.2 kilometers away from National Highway 209, and 2.5 kilometers from Pingcun Village of Huaitong (Baomao) Expressway. The former residence of Su Yu is divided into east and west courtyards, covering an area of about 1000 square meters. The existing house is the main house of the east courtyard, which was built during the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1875-1908), covering an area of 416 square meters. The east courtyard is composed of three two-story wooden houses, namely, the front hall, the main house and the Hengcang Building. The bar-shaped courtyard and three facing-each-other living rooms just contribute to Chinese characters “Yi Pin” (一品). On August 10, 1907, Senior General Su Yu was born in a room on the first floor of Hengcang Building. The entire East Yard still retains the life style of Senior General Su Yu when he was a teenager. The birth room, bedroom and study room, parents’ room, fireplace kitchen, mill house, granary, dark room, etc., are all as archaeic as before, and are now Cultural Relics Protection Units in Hunan Province.
