Found at Yanli Village in Hongjiang County-Level City, the Gaomiao site with an area of some 15,000 square meters, largely a shell mound, is one of the best-preserved locations of the Neolithic Age.
Unearthed objects include various pottery decorated with phoenix, animal face, and the joint tombs of tribe leaders and their wives, all of which are of key importance learning about the culture of the Neolithic age in the area. The discovery of the Gaomiao relics has filled in the archeological blank on the middle and late Neolithic period in Wushui River Basin.
