The Changsha Customs Authority announced on September 14 that in the first eight months, Hunan's imports and exports to other BRICS countries totaled 80.33 billion CNY, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%. Of this, exports were 43.76 billion CNY and imports were 36.57 billion CNY.

Brazil, Indonesia, and Russia ranked the top three, with trade values of 21.2 billion CNY, 14.59 billion CNY, and 14.13 billion CNY respectively, together accounting for 62.1% of Hunan's total trade with other BRICS countries during this period (hereafter the same). Brazil has remained at the top since 2023. In the first eight months of this year, Hunan's imports from Brazil reached 15.44 billion CNY, up 14.5%, while exports hit 5.76 billion CNY, up 13.2%. Soybeans, iron ore and iron concentrates, and beef together made up 96.2% of Hunan's total imports from Brazil.

Exports of mechanical and electrical products made up over 70% of Hunan's total exports. During the January-August period, Hunan's exports of mechanical and electrical products to other BRICS countries amounted to 33.21 billion CNY, accounting for 75.9% of the total. Among them, the exports of automobiles (including chassis), flat panel display modules, electrical equipment, and construction machinery were 9.46 billion CNY, 2.48 billion CNY, 2.15 billion CNY, and 10.52 billion CNY, respectively.

Private enterprises were the main contributor. In this period, they traded 68.75 billion CNY with other BRICS countries, up 9.2% and accounting for 85.6% of the total. The number of private enterprises actually trading with these countries reached 3,200, 132 more than a year earlier.

Hunan's foreign trade showed growing momentum across multiple regions. In the first eight months, Changsha recorded trade with other BRICS countries of 41.19 billion CNY, taking up 51.3% of the total; Yueyang reached 11.28 billion CNY, 14% of the total; while Loudi, Yiyang, and Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture posted relatively rapid growth.
