Shen Xiaoming, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, met with Lakshmi Mittal, executive chairman of the ArcelorMittal Group, and his party in Changsha on February 19, 2025.
Secretary Shen, on behalf of the provincial Party committee and the provincial government, welcomed the guests. He noted that ArcelorMittal Group and Mr. Mittal, as old friends of Hunan Province, have been working closely together with Hunan for 20 years, achieving fruitful results and fostering a profound friendship. The jointly-invested Valin ArcelorMittal Automotive Sheet Co., Ltd. has become a leading supplier of automotive sheets in China and a successful model of a Chinese-foreign joint venture in the iron and steel industry.
Hunan has been thoroughly studying and implementing the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speeches and instructions made during his inspection tours to Hunan; continuously exerting efforts to build Hunan into a national hub for important and advanced manufacturing industries, a sci-tech and innovation center with core competitiveness, and a pacesetter for reform and opening-up of China's inland regions; and accelerating the high-quality development. This provides new opportunities for both Hunan Province and ArcelorMittal Group to deepen collaboration and promote advancement. Secretary Shen expected the two sides to further expand cooperation areas and strengthen the partnership, continuously creating a new situation of win-win development.
Lakshmi Mittal remarked that over the past 20 years, the ArcelorMittal Group has experienced rapid growth in Hunan, and its future progress will neither stop nor slow down. The group will continue to expand its investments in Hunan, increase the introduction of new technologies and advanced materials, and actively establish research and development centers to create new momentum for cooperation.
Provincial leaders Qin Guowen and Cao Zhiqiang, ArcelorMittal Group Executive Vice President Brad Davey, and Vice Presidents Pinakin Chaubal and Sanjay Samaddar, attended.
