On the evening of July 18, Yushuwan Youth Square in Hecheng District buzzed with crowds as the themed event “Water Dragon Welcomes Midsummer” kicked off in full swing, presenting local residents and tourists with a delightful summer gala steeped in folk charm and refreshing fun.

The celebration kicked off with the eye-dotting ceremony for Hongjiang Grass Dragon, an item of intangible cultural heritage. Heritage inheritors led the grass dragon troupe to parade around the square to pray for blessings. When the procession reached the waterside plaza, the interactive water-splashing session brought the event to a climax. Locals and visitors splashed water on one another with basins and water guns. The flying water sprays embodied people’s wishes for peace and smooth lives and drove away the intense summer heat. Meanwhile, dynamic water drum performances and Miao and Dong ethnic folk shows took place on site. The supporting summer bazaar featured a wide array of local delicacies and cultural and creative products, filling the venue with lively street vibes.

It is learned that the event will last until August 31. By integrating the inheritance of intangible cultural heritages with waterside leisure activities, Huaihua has created a new consumption scenario for cultural tourism during the summer break.
