Waxberry trees grown in the greenhouses in Baishaxi Village of Huaqiao Town are laden with clusters of fruits. Bathed in sunlight, the waxberries boast an alluring hue, with a rich fragrance drifting on the breeze.
Local acidic soil and weather support the growth of waxberries. The fruit from the village is famed for its juicy and sweet taste. The cultivation area of greenhouse waxberries currently sits at 60 mu (about 4 hectares). To further improve fruit quality and ward off risks posed by adverse weather, local authorities have developed modern protected agriculture to build standardized greenhouses, blazing a path for refined, high-end development of the specialty fruit sector. Thanks to the premium quality, the village’s greenhouse-grown waxberries have earned a solid market reputation. Every harvest season, supplies fall short of market demand. Besides robust local sales, many visitors drive to the plantations to pick and savor waxberries, immersing themselves in pastoral fun.
In recent years, leveraging unique ecological endowments across its townships, Zhongfang County has planted high-grade specialty fruits and vegetables tailored to local conditions, strengthening its branded specialty agriculture.
