On the morning of October 14, Wei Zhaohui, secretary of the Huaihua Municipal Party Committee and head of the United Front Work Leading Group of the Municipal Party Committee, presided over a special meeting of the United Front Work Leading Group of the Municipal Party Committee. The meeting thoroughly studied and implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thinking on doing a good job in the Party’s united front work in the new era,and applied the guiding principles of relevant meetings of the Central Committee and the Provincial Party Committee. Attendees heard briefings on relevant work, reviewed relevant documents, and studied and arranged work for the next phase. He Zongqing, deputy secretary of the Huaihua Municipal Party Committee, secretary of the Huaihua Municipal Politics and Law Commission and deputy head of the United Front Work Leading Group of the Municipal Party Committee, and municipal leaders Zhou Wei and Yu Jianyong attended the meeting.
The meeting pointed out that since the beginning of this year, the city’s united front has focused on the central work and overall interests, taken proactive actions and performed solid duties in consolidating ideological consensus. In this case, the city has fulfilled its responsibility of serving opening-up and development, improving services for overseas Chinese, and boosting ethnic unity as well, thereby contributing significantly to the advancement of the local economic and social development.
The meeting stressed that we must steer the united front work in the right direction,thoroughly study and comprehend General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thinking on doing a good job in the Party’s united front work in the new era, continuously expand the mainstream ideological and public opinion for the united front, promote high-quality development of the city’s united front work, and take concrete actions to deeply understand the decisive significance of the Two Establishments and resolutely uphold the Two Maintenances. We must build a bridge connecting overseas Chinese, continue to polish the work brand of "Embracing Overseas Chinese", and give full play to overseas compatriots’ strengths of linking China with the world beyond and having extensive connections. We should keep making efforts in cultural exchanges, economic and trade cooperation, industrial development and other fields, so that the strength of overseas Chinese can be truly embedded in the opening-up and development of Huaihua city. We must draw a concentric circle for ethnic unity, thoroughly study, publicize and implement the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress, consolidate the achievements in building a national demonstration city for ethnic unity and progress, innovate in inheriting and carrying forward ethnic intangible cultural heritage, shore up weaknesses in the development of ethnic regions, and ensure that the fruits of modernization benefit people of all ethnic groups across the city. We must pursue united front work as an integrated initiative, strictly implement the responsibility system for united front work, consolidate grassroots foundations, strengthen the united front workforce, and constantly improve the overarching united front work framework.
