On the afternoon of October 15, Wei Zhaohui, secretary of the CPC Huaihua Municipal Committee, met with a delegation of bamboo industry experts and entrepreneurs led by Fang Wei, professor, former deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Zhejiang A&F University and honorary director of its Bamboo Research Institute. City leaders Wu Hanming, Zhou Wei and Lou Hongfu also attended the meeting.
Wei welcomed Fang and his delegation on behalf of the CPC Huaihua Municipal Committee and the Huaihua Municipal Government. She said Huaihua has abundant bamboo resources, high-quality bamboo and a strong foundation for industrial development, with promising prospects. The city is now seizing the opportunities presented by the growing “bamboo as a substitute for plastic” initiative. It sees the bamboo industry as a key part of its efforts to develop specialty agriculture in mountainous areas, build a modern industrial system, explore ways to realize the value of ecological products and provide regular assistance. Huaihua urgently needs strong strategic partners, she said.
Wei also expressed hope that Huaihua would establish strategic cooperation with Zhejiang A&F University and the entrepreneurs to expand the bamboo industry across the city, promote the integration of primary, secondary and tertiary industries, foster a robust bamboo industry ecosystem, and develop an innovative model that can be piloted ahead of others, replicated and promoted nationwide. She noted that the partnership could help drive high-quality development of Huaihua’s bamboo industry.
Fang offered suggestions and outlined ideas for cooperation to help Huaihua develop the bamboo industry, including opening the sector to broader development, advancing the deep processing of bamboo, improving the efficiency of ecological bamboo cultivation, developing bamboo-themed tourism across the city, and building a system for scientific and technological innovation in the sector. The entrepreneurs said they were optimistic about the opportunities for Huaihua’s bamboo industry and would strengthen communication and coordination while actively exploring areas for cooperation.
The Bamboo Research Institute of Zhejiang A&F University took the lead in developing an international standard for bamboo charcoal and is a leading force in scientific and technological innovation in China’s bamboo industry. Deepening cooperation with the institute is important for the promotion of the high-quality development of Huaihua’s bamboo industry.
