To mark the 10th National Science and Technology Workers’ Day and the upcoming Children’s Day, the municipal Science and Technology Museum launched a themed activity titled “Explore the Palace of Science & Technology, Forge Dreams of Innovation” from May 30 to 31. Centered on science popularization targeting teenagers, the event featured diverse activities including classroom lectures, hands-on practice, and aviation experiences. It brought science close to children and lit up the festival with innovation, presenting teenagers across the city with a high-quality and immersive popular science feast.

On the morning of May 30, aviation equipment was neatly arranged in front of Huaihua Science and Technology Museum. Lecture halls inside the museum were packed to capacity, while the handicraft zone, robot zone and tea culture zone opened simultaneously, creating a vibrant atmosphere of exploration and pursuit of knowledge.

The aviation science popularization carnival on the museum square stood out as the highlight. Six activities were held in succession, including hot air balloon photo ops, racing drone flights, youth drone displays, dragon-and-phoenix aircraft demonstrations, model aircraft flights and balloon shooting with racing drones. Under instructors’ guidance, children learned to operate flying devices, experienced the wonders of aviation technology during demonstrations, and captured precious childhood memories by taking photos.

Inside the museum, an exhibition was jointly staged by Huaihua Science and Technology Museum and Huaihua University. It focused on robot assembly, mechanical structures, transmission principles and basic programming practice. Children assembled, debugged and operated devices on site, getting a first-hand taste of the charm of engineering and intelligent technology. Dr. Li Xiaomei from the School of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering of Huaihua University stated that the two parties leverage the provincial popular science training base to integrate educational resources. Through immersive experiences, they aim to spark teenagers’ interest in science and innovation, consolidate the foundation of local science and innovation education, and advance the National Scientific Literacy Improvement Initiative.

The activity “Science Meets Tea” ingeniously combined traditional culture with scientific knowledge. Tea artisans from Jietan Tea enterprises explained physical and chemical principles alongside tea culture, leading children on a scientific journey. Visitors could also make blended tea and experience the Song Dynasty tea whipping craft. Children mixed tea drinks and created paintings on tea foam, which helped improve their hand-eye coordination and concentration while allowing them to appreciate the charm of intangible cultural heritage. “We hope to empower tea culture with science and technology, enabling children to learn science and develop affection for their hometown amid the fragrance of tea,” said a person in charge of the Jietan Tea enterprise. As an important measure taken by Huaihua Science and Technology Museum to implement the National Scientific Literacy Improvement Initiative, this series of activities integrates science popularization, cultural inheritance, practical innovation and value guidance. It not only enriches teenagers’ holiday life, but also fosters a sound environment for science and fuels their passion for innovation.
