On the afternoon of June 12, 2026, Wei Zhaohui, secretary of the Huaihua Municipal Party Committee, chaired the Symposium on Bamboo Industry Chain Development across the city. Wei emphasized the need to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and instructions concerning Hunan’s work, seize the industry opportunities under the Bamboo as a substitute for plastic initiative, tap into the rich potential of bamboo resources, empower the entire industry chain in all aspects, and promote the high-quality development of the bamboo industry. Municipal leaders Li Weilin and Hu Heping attended the meeting.
The meeting briefed attendees on the progress of the bamboo industry chain development. Heads of ten enterprises, including Hunan Dazhuang Bamboo Industry, Huaihua Hengyu Bamboo & Wood Development, Huaihua Dalong Agricultural Technology, Hunan Chenming Bamboo & Wood Products, Hunan Rongjing Bamboo Industry, Hunan Lingao New Materials, Hunan Yiou New Materials, Hongjiang District Xinlong Bamboo Plywood Factory, Huaihua Jieyang New Materials, and Hunan Lvdi High-Tech Agriculture & Forestry Development, delivered speeches on the current status, challenges, and suggestions for industrial development.
The bamboo industry is an ecological, green, people-enriching, and open industry, said Wei. In recent years, Huaihua’s bamboo industry has achieved rapid growth. However, we must clearly recognize that the industry is still in its initial stage, with inadequate development in resource utilization, intensive processing, leading enterprise cultivation, brand building, market expansion, and integrated development. We should learn from the advanced experiences of Anji in Zhejiang and Yong’an in Fujian, adhere to the principle of “making full use of every part of a bamboo”, accelerate the scale and growth of the bamboo industry, and achieve higher-quality and more sustainable development.
Wei stressed the following key points:
AI Empowerment: Adopt an AI-driven mindset to optimize workshops, production lines, workstations, and workforce; promote core technology upgrades and robot replacement for existing factories, and ensure new projects feature fully intelligent and automated production lines to enhance industrial smartification.
Innovation Empowerment: Focus on new processes, designs, and products; actively promote technologies such as formaldehyde-free processing, mildew-resistant modification, intelligent bamboo stripping, and biological extraction; innovate high-value products including bamboo-based anode materials for sodium-ion batteries, bamboo leaf flavonoid health products, bamboo fiber fabrics, and medium-to-high-end paper, to fully leverage innovation potential.
Brand Empowerment: Build a regional public brand; integrate the development of standardized bases, green certification, industry standard formulation, and unified packaging and marketing, linking the brand closely with high quality, high value, and regional characteristics.
Business Model Empowerment: Promote in-depth integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries; develop a full industrial chain covering “bamboo forest sightseeing, bamboo craft learning, bamboo cuisine tasting, bamboo-based wellness, and bamboo product shopping”, to truly capitalize on tourism benefits and secure long-term prosperity.
Leading Enterprise Empowerment: Strengthen government-enterprise cooperation to advance high-quality projects such as standardized bamboo forest upgrading, drone-based transportation, and bamboo substitution for plastic, wood, and steel; launch tailored policies for technological transformation, R&D, market expansion, financial support, talent recruitment, and logistics services, to cultivate large-scale, highly influential leading enterprises.
Market Empowerment: Leverage the advantages of the Huaihua International Land Port to strategically expand into global niche markets and accelerate overseas market penetration.
