On April 25, the Staff Volunteer Service Team of Huaihua Federation of Trade Unions and Huaihua Volunteer Association, together with the China Population Welfare Foundation, launched a yellow bracelet distribution volunteer service activity at Xintiandi Square in Hecheng District. The activity provided free yellow bracelets for elderly people aged 60 and above who are prone to getting lost or living with cognitive impairments.
At the activity site, volunteers warmly received elderly residents and their family members who came for consultation and application, and patiently explained the functions, usage methods and application procedures of the yellow bracelets. It was introduced that each yellow bracelet is equipped with a built-in information card and an exclusive QR code, registering key information such as the names and phone numbers of the elderly’s emergency contacts. When senior citizens get lost outdoors, suffer sudden illnesses, encounter traffic accidents or other emergencies, kind-hearted members of the public only need to scan the QR code on the bracelet to quickly contact their guardians, winning precious time for timely rescue.
“This activity is really thoughtful and practical!” After receiving the yellow bracelet, 81-year-old Grandpa Peng held it carefully in his palm, wearing a relieved smile on his face and speaking with sincere gratitude. “My wife and I are advanced in years and our memory has faded greatly. We tend to get lost once we leave the residential compound, making our whole family worried all day long. With this yellow bracelet, our children can feel more at ease when we go out, with fewer worries to distract them so they can focus on their work. We are truly grateful to the government and volunteers, as this initiative has added an extra layer of ‘insurance’ for the safe travel of us elderly people.” His simple words voiced the shared aspirations of numerous senior citizens and vividly reflected the far-reaching significance of this activity.
This activity not only offered practical anti-loss protection for the elderly, but also carried out simultaneous popular science education on cognitive impairment, helping the public gain a better understanding of people with cognitive disorders, disseminating elderly care knowledge, and fostering a sound social atmosphere of caring for senior citizens and protecting their safety.
The China Population Welfare Foundation and the Staff Volunteer Service Team of Huaihua Federation of Trade Unions will further scale up the publicity of the Yellow Bracelet Action. They will extend services to more communities and villages to assist more elderly people and families in need, and strengthen the safety guarantee for senior citizens during their daily travels.
