On March 6th, Huaihua Municipal hydrological Bureau, in collaboration with Hongxing Road Primary School, organized a hydrological activity titled “I Am a Little Hydrological Monitor”. Six pupils from the science group of Grade Six, instructed by three teachers, visited a hydrological monitoring station and the water quality testing laboratory of Huaihua Municipal hydrological Bureau, embarking on an immersive experience of hydrological exploration.

During the activity, the workers from the Municipal hydrological Bureau adopted a “science explanation + hands-on operation” approach to teach the pupils to observe water levels and rainfall, identify flood marks, and recognize hydrological monitoring equipment such as current meters. The pupils themselves recorded the data of water level, read the simulated information of rainfall, conducted operations on water quality sampling outdoors, and entered the laboratory to learn experimental procedures like metal content testing, gaining an up-close appreciation of the scientific nature and practical application of hydrological data.

During the summary and discussion, the pupils readily shared their gains from this activity, and the workers provided answers to questions raised by these pupils, further reinforcing the knowledge acquired. This activity turned the hydrological science in class into the first line of practice, not only enabling students to grasp basic hydrological knowledge and enhance their hands-on ability and teamwork skills but also planting the seeds of love, protection, and conservation of water resources in their hearts.

A relevant official from the Municipal hydrological Bureau noted that they will continue to carry out a series of activities of popularizing hydrological knowledge on campus, promoting the concept of water resource conservation among the public through engaging and experiential practices. The focus is on fostering ecological awareness and a sense of social responsibility among young people.
