The launch ceremony for the first batch of AEDs as first-aid equipment placed in public places was held by the Huaihua Municipal Health Commission on November 29.
AED or automated external defibrillator is a lifesaving machine that is used to reestablish a normal heart rhythm. It is portable and easy to operate, making it suitable for use by non-medical personnel in emergency situations. It is learned that performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within the “critical 4 minutes” has a success rate of approximately 50%. The combination of CPR and AED can increase the success rate of rescue to 90%.
So far, the Huaihua Municipal Health Commission has placed 10 AEDs in public places with large population, and held large-scale AED first aid training sessions for 66,121 people.
This initiative, led by Qingdao Wukong Zhilian Medical Technology Co., Ltd., a social enterprise, involved the placement of the first batch of 100 AEDs in public places and the following training activities, aiming to enhance the ability of local communities to respond to first aid emergencies.
In the next phase, the Huaihua Municipal Health Commission will actively promote emergency rescue efforts and AED deployment across the city. Through scientific planning and meticulous management, the commission has aimed to give full play to the crucial role of AEDs as life-saving devices, which will make contributions to the Healthy Huaihua Initiative.
