According to Yu, the air pollution prevention and control situation is severe this year. Departments of all levels across the city should, in this case, improve their political stance and enhance their sense of responsibility and urgency in this respect. They should also be resolved to take rigorous and concrete measures immediately, thus ensuring the realization of this year’s assessment goals that there will be no mild pollution weather and above.

It is necessary to highlight the key areas of work and scale up efforts in the comprehensive utilization of straws as well as the control of orderly burning, in particular, the orderly burning and storing of straws, Yu emphasized. It is necessary to strengthen comprehensive regulation on outdoor garbage burning and the prohibition and restriction of setting off fireworks and firecrackers, with the promotion of the latter practice being prioritized during the Spring Festival. It is necessary to effectively supervise market entities in their dust pollution prevention and control measures, especially the control of construction site dust. It is also necessary to strengthen departmental linkage. This means that all responsible units and counties (cities, districts) should work closely in coordination to form a synergy. The Municipal Environmental Protection Committee should also, in this sense, conduct regular scheduling, inspection and supervision.
