On April 12, the on-site promotion meeting of the barrier-free renovation of homes with severe disabilities in Huaihua (hereinafter referred to as“Home Renovation” for short) was held in Chenxi. The relevant persons in charge of Department of Civil Rights of Hunan Disabled Persons’ Federation were invited to the meeting to offer lessons or instructions about the renovation, and the relevant persons in charge of disabled persons’federations at the level of county and city and of the construction side of home renovation were present in the meeting.
On the same day, the on-site promotion meeting for “Home Renovation” was held in the home of Zhang Shengxiang, a villager in the Group 16 of Huomachong Village, Huomachong Town. Zhang Shengxiang aged 59 has severe visual impairment, and what’s worse, his wife Liu Manlian is dumb. At the beginning of this year, after the Disabled Persons’ Federation of Chenxi County learned that it was inconvenient for Zhang Shengxiang’s family to go to the toilet and the ground in his house was uneven, he included his home in the 2024 Barrier-free Renovation Plan for Families with Disabilities. So far, 80% of the project has been completed. Taking Zhang Shengxiang’s “home renovation” as a case, more than 50 participants carefully examined the details of the renovation, launched a heated discussion on the safety, practicality, and applicability of the renovation that needed to be rectified and improved, and exchanged experiences.
According to information, the number of “homes forrenovation” in our city this year reaches 2567, indicating that the task is arduous and the time is very pressing. It is demanded in the meeting that the departments of the disabled persons’federation at all levels take the individual needs of disabled families as the basics of their work and regard“safety”, “practicality” and “beautifulness” as the principle for renovation; besides, the existing plans were illustrated in detail in the meeting,and the “Home Renovation”requires planning well before the renovation starts, and the homes are to stay perfect after they are completed, in other words, the limited funds are supposed to be made full use of in terms of social benefits.
At present, all counties (municipalities and districts) are making great efforts to start their renovation projects in line with the strict standards and high requirements.
