On the morning of September 1st, 2023, the opening ceremony of the new terminal of Huaihua Zhijiang Airport was held. Li Chunqiu, Deputy Secretary of Huaihua Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, announced the opening of the project. Hong Xin, member of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Hunan Airport Management Group, and such city leaders as Li Weilin, Deng Xiaojian, Yu Jianyong, and Xie Shangcheng, attended the ceremony.

Huaihua Zhijiang Airport, as one of the top ten completed civil aviation transportation airports in Hunan, opened on December 19, 2005. In February 2017, in order to adapt to the rapid development of Huaihua’s economy and society and the growing demand for air travel, Huaihua Municipal Party Committee and Government decided to launch the construction of the Huaihua Zhijiang Airport terminal renovation and expansion supporting project, with a total investment of approximately 173 million yuan. At present, all airport renovation and expansion projects have been completed.
The front center of the new terminal is a victorious “V” shaped steel structure, symbolizing the historical origins of the victory in the Anti-Japanese War and the famous city of Zhijiang. The new terminal is divided into two floors. The first floor is the passenger departure floor, which includes functional areas such as baggage screening area, boarding security area, baggage pickup area, transfer service area, etc. There are 6 self-service check-in counters, self-service packaging machines, 1 VIP room, 3 mother and baby rooms, and 2 remote boarding gates. The second floor is the arrival and departure level for passengers, divided into passenger waiting areas, catering and commercial service areas, with 2 first-class lounges, medical service rooms, 2 mother and baby rooms, and 2 bridge boarding gates. After being put into use, it can meet the usage requirements of an annual passenger throughput of 1 million people and a peak hour throughput of 526 people.
Next, our city will take the official opening of this new terminal as an opportunity to seize the development opportunities of Huaihua’s aviation transportation industry, deepen the linkage between Huaihua International Land Port and Zhijiang Airport, promote the integration of port and city, and the development of multimodal transportation, expand cooperation space, share aviation dividends, and achieve greater win-win results.
