On the morning of May 10, Chen Jing, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Huaihua Municipal Committee and executive vice mayor of Huaihua, met with Lan Rujin (Melissa Lan, U.S. Consul General in Wuhan) and her delegation in Zhijiang.

Chen expressed his warm welcome to the delegation. He said that more than 80 years ago, General Chennault formed "The Chinese Air Force the United States Volunteer Air Force to China" and came to Huaihua Zhijiang to fight against the Japanese together with Chinese army. In order to commemorate General Chennault and the "Flying Tigers", Zhijiang built the Flying Tigers Memorial Hall to show the deep friendship between American and Chinese. Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County and the city of Pinehurst, Moore County, North Carolina have concluded a twin city and maintained good exchanges and cooperation. It is hoped that, through the Consulate General, the friendship could be deepened and the practical cooperation further strengthened in the fields of economy, trade, culture and tourism.

Lan said that the U.S. Consulate General in Wuhan will continue to support the cooperation between Huaihua and the U.S., and actively promote the exchange and cooperation in economic and trade, culture and tourism, as well as the interaction between the twin city and the youth.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Flying Tigers Memorial Hall, the former site of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and Zhijiang Fourth High School.
