On the morning of May 28, the annual meeting of Tsinghua University Rural Revitalization Workstation was held at the main building of Tsinghua University. At the meeting, the university passed a plan to work with Xupu County of Huaihua to build a rural revitalization workstation in the county, which will be the first municipal-level rural revitalization workstation set up by the university in Hunan Province.

After the completion of the workstation, Tsinghua University will provide intellectual support in the improvement of human living environment, the development of industries with local features and the inheritance of local culture. Huaihua will work with the workstation to improve institutional mechanisms and innovative operational procedures to encourage young people to take root in rural areas and to serve the national rural revitalization strategy.

In recent years, the city has carried out preparation work with the support of Tsinghua University. Tsinghua University has organized three winter and summer vacation programs with the participation of 34 students (including 5 doctoral students and 5 master students) from 13 universities, including Tsinghua University, Central South University and Xiamen University. The students carried out various activities including household survey, field mapping, creative publicity and live broadcast to explore suitable ways to support the development of industries with local features, aiming to identify replicable models for young people to contribute to rural revitalization.

Since the initiation of the plan of building the “Rural Revitalization Workstation”, Tsinghua University has expected these sites across the country to form an interconnected network that serves the national rural revitalization strategy from five aspects: industrial development, talent training, cultural inheritance, human living environment and organization construction. Through the cooperation with local government, the workstations will serve as multifunctional centers to meet the needs of office, training, conference, exhibition and so on in rural areas, while giving teachers and students valuable opportunities to put their professional knowledge into practice. So far, Tsinghua University has built 32 rural revitalization workstations in 21 provinces across the country, and has organized more than 7,000 people from more than 200 colleges and universities to provide service for more than 300,000 villagers.
