On May 21, the 5th Farming Competition of Hunan Province was held at the Memorial Park of Anjiang Agricultural School in Hongjiang County-level City.

The venue of the event, Anjiang Agricultural School, is a national key cultural relic protection unit and the birthplace of hybrid rice, which is located in the Anjiang Basin of Hongjiang City at the foot of the Xuefeng Mountain. Academician Yuan Longping worked at the school for 37 years, succeeding in cultivating the world’s first high-yielding hybrid rice strain. The Memorial Park with picturesque scenery bears witness to the efforts of Yuan Longping and his team in the research of hybrid rice as well as the historical development of rice civilization.

The theme of the competition was “National Fitness Brings Vitality”, which was closely related to farming and sports activities, aiming to provide an opportunity for participants to experience farmers’ daily work in the rice paddies. The competition was hosted by the Sports Bureau of Hunan Province, the Huaihua Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports and the People’s Government of Hongjiang City, and was organized by the Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports of Hongjiang City and co-organized by the Management Committee of Anjiang Agricultural School Memorial Park.
