A large Peking Opera symphony concert was staged at the Meixi Lake International Culture and Arts Center Grand Theater on July 27.

The concert combines Peking Opera, the quintessence of Chinese culture, with modern Western symphonies. It features Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award winners Kui Zhi, Li Shengsu, Ling Ke and Zhang Xuan, tenor Qiu Taowu, and Peking Opera performer Ji Yaoyao who plays the role of Qingyi (the demure middle-aged or young female character type in Chinese operas).

The performance is a perfect combination of Jinghu (a two-stringed bowed instrument with a high register), cello and symphony. The music piece Farewell My Concubine composed by famous Chinese composer Yang Chunlin is a perfect interpretation of the beauty of Chinese and Western cultures. (Photos/Chen Juanjuan)
