Huaihua is the “hometown of fruits”. The city’s fruit planting area has exceeded 2.22 million mu (approximately 148,000 hectares), with an annual output of 2.86 million tons. Among them, the citrus planting area has reached 1.46 million mu, with an annual output of 2.2 million tons. The annual output value has exceeded 6.6 billion yuan. It ranks first in the province in terms of area, output, and output value. It is the largest rock sugar orange production base in the country.
Huaihua’s livestock and poultry production is transforming towards scale, standardization and intensification. The city produces 3.85 million pigs, 170,000 beef cattle, and 32.6 million poultry annually. It has 1,136 large-scale livestock and poultry farms, with a scale rate of 50%.
Huaihua’s Camellia oleifera (oil-tea camellia) cultivation has a long history. It is one of the five major Camellia oleifera concentrated production areas, one of the four major Camellia oleifera industry clusters and one of the three Camellia oleifera industry belts in the province. It has formed a number of nationally well-known trademarks and national geographical indication products such as “Dongge” and “Yangjiajiang”, and has built a high-quality Camellia oleifera base of 850,000 mu.
Huaihua’s organic green tea enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. The city has a total tea garden area of 310,000 mu, with an annual output of 20,000 tons, and a certified organic tea garden area of more than 50,000 mu. The regional public brand value of “Jietan Tea” has exceeded 4.1 billion yuan, ranking 39th in the country.
Huaihua’s grain and oil production has grown steadily. The city’s grain production area has stabilized at 4.64 million mu, with a total grain output of 1.99 million tons. The city’s oilseed production area stands at 2.12 million mu, with a total output of 250,000 tons. The city’s vegetable planting area is 1.2 million mu, with a total output of 1.95 million tons.
