Shen Xiaoming, secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, met in Changsha with Harvey Fineberg, chair of the Board of Trustees of the China Medical Board (CMB), and his entourage on March 18, 2025.
Secretary Shen, on behalf of the provincial Party committee and the provincial government, welcomed the guests. He noted that Hunan and CMB have built a profound friendship for more than 100 years, especially since the launch of reform and opening up in 1978. Both sides have been increasingly closer in communication and cooperation, significantly promoting medical education reform, research, and talent cultivation at Xiangya Hospital. He expected CMB to continue to serve as a bridge and work together with Hunan to push forward the integration of medical and engineering education, cultivating interdisciplinary talents in medicine and engineering. We could make new explorations for deepening the reform of medical education, upgrading the level of medical and health care services, and improving people's health and well-being, he added.
Harvey Fineberg reviewed the history of medical collaboration between China and the United States. He remarked that China's rapid development over the years has not only benefited the Chinese people, but also the people of the world. CMB will give full play to its own advantages to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China, including partnerships in Hunan, focusing on training medical personnel and solving medical problems, to better benefit the people of the two countries.
Provincial leaders Qin Guowen and Jiang Difei, and Li Jiancheng, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Central South University, attended.
