On the morning of June 29, the day before the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, Wei Zhaohui, secretary of Huaihua Municipal Party Committee, visited and extended greetings to veteran Party members, those with outstanding contributions, and the families of those who died while on duty. She also delivered festive greetings and sincere blessings on behalf of the Municipal Party Committee to all Party members across the city. Also in attendance were Peng Xindan and Li Weilin, both of whom are key members of the leading group of Huaihua Municipal Government.
Zhu Yilong joined the People’s Liberation Army of China at the age of 17 and participated in the Korean War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea in January 1951. In the mid-1960s, as an Air Force pilot, he was awarded two first-class military honors. In 1966, he was warmly received by Premier Zhou Enlai. At Zhu’s home, Wei inquired about his physical and living conditions and attentively listened to his legendary stories of joining the army and fighting against American soldiers, and then she thanked him for his outstanding contributions to defending the country and reminded him to take good care of himself so as to enjoy his later years. She also hoped that he would tell the young people more stories of the revolutionary wartime and pass on the revolutionary spirit through his personal experience to them if he is in good health.
At the home of the outstanding Party member Xiang Taiyou, Wei gained a detailed understanding of his scientific research and daily life. Xiang has been engaged in rice research for more than 30 years and has won the third prize of Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize of Hunan Provincial Agricultural Harvest Award, and six first and second prizes of Huaihua Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award. In addition, he was awarded the Hunan Provincial May Day Labor Medal in April 2026. Wei encouraged him to inherit and promote the noble qualities and noble demeanor of Academician Yuan Longping to devote himself to research and cultivate more high-yield and high-quality new rice varieties and to empower the seed industry of Huaihua to improve quality and efficiency, so as to enhance the core competitiveness of hybrid rice of Huaihua and polish the brand of the city “One Seed, Changing the World”.
Xiong Liping is the widow of Shu Zongwu, a Party member who sacrificed himself in the line of duty. At Xiong’s home, Wei inquired in detail about her physical health and living situation, expressing the high respect of the Party and the municipal government for party members who died in the line of duty and the deep concern for their families. In addition, Wei urged relevant departments to do a good job in caring for the families of Party members who sacrificed their lives while on duty, actively caring, regularly visiting, and helping to solve their difficulties.
During her visits, Wei emphasized that Party organizations at all levels of the city should deeply study and implement general secretary Xi Jinping’s Party building ideology, regularly carry out visiting and caring activities, vigorously promote the advanced deeds and dedication spirit of veteran Party members, and continuously enhance their sense of belonging, honor, and happiness. All Party members should always bear in mind the earnest instructions of Xi’s “Never forgetting our original aspiration, always remembering our mission, fulfilling our duties and responsibilities, and taking on practical responsibilities", so as to make achievements in the new journey of making Huaihua a regional center city in the border region of five provinces.
