The Fifth Taijiquan Championships kicked off at the Huaihua Sports Center on the morning of December 2. The event drew the participation of over 300 Taijiquan practitioners of 21 teams from 13 counties/county-level cities/districts under the administration of Huaihua City.

The two-day event was hosted by the Huaihua Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports and organized by the Huaihua National Fitness Service Center and Huaihua Taijiquan Association. At the competition site, the wonderful performances put on by Taijiquan practitioners won the applause from the audience.

“Taijiquan symbolizes the excellence of traditional Chinese culture. Practicing Taijiquan not only enriches my life, but also offers a harmonious integration of my mind, body, and spirit,” said Huang Yumei, an athlete from Huitong County. The 25-year-old, who started to practice Taijiquan in 2022, expressed her hope that young people would join in the campaign of carrying forward the intangible cultural heritage.

In recent years, Huaihua has attached great importance to the development of mass sports and the continuous improvement of public sports facilities. The championships provided a platform for Taijiquan practitioners to display their skills and learn from each other, demonstrating the achievements of the city’s efforts in boosting coordinated development of mass sports, competitive sports and the sports industry.
