On October 16, with the publication of the evaluation results for the fifth batch of the "Hometowns of Chinese Bamboo Industry Features" by the Chinese Forestry Society's Bamboo Branch, Jingzhou Miao and Dong Autonomous County of Huaihua City happily brought back the golden plaque of the "Hometown of Chinese Nan Bamboo". This is the county's third "national-level" endorsement, following the titles of "Hometown of Chinese Poria Cocos" and "Hometown of Chinese Waxberries".
Located in the southwestern part of Western Hunan and at the junction of three provinces (Hunan, Guizhou, and Guangxi), Jingzhou boasts highly suitable soil and climatic conditions for the growth of Nan bamboo. Currently, within a 100-kilometer radius of Jingzhou and its surrounding areas, the bamboo forest covers an area of 210,000 hectares, with approximately 636 million bamboo shoots. In recent years, Jingzhou has been actively implementing the development concept of "green mountains and clear waters are invaluable assets" and exploring the value transformation path of ecological products through the integration of leading enterprises and the entire industry chain.
To achieve the ambitious goal of creating a "billion-dollar bamboo industry," efforts are being made to construct a distinctive bamboo technology industrial park. The planned area of the park is approximately 100 hectares. Several enterprises, including Hunan Juzhu New Materials Co., Ltd., Hunan Linghao New Materials Co., Ltd., Hunan Chenming Bamboo and Wood Manufacturing, and Hunan Chenxin Bamboo Industry, have successively settled in the park.
Efforts are being made to fully establish a complete industrial chain bamboo industry cluster. Within the county, there are a total of 41 bamboo processing enterprises. These enterprises have formed a development cluster of the full bamboo industry chain, with Chenming Bamboo Industry leading in the deep processing of bamboo utensils, Juzhu in the deep processing of bamboo integrated carriage boards, Linghao in the manufacturing of bamboo fibers, and Hongtong Bamboo Charcoal in the deep processing of bamboo residues.
Jingzhou has endeavored to to create a comprehensive bamboo green recycling system, focusing on establishing a modern industrial matrix that integrates primary and deep processing of bamboo materials, recycling of waste materials, scientific and technological innovation research and development, and comprehensive service support. The goal is to construct a complete bamboo industry chain and fully utilize the potential of bamboo resources.
Jingzhou has also made every effort to drive the economy of the Hunan-Guizhou-Guangxi contiguous region, where the bamboo processing industry provides 2,000 job opportunities. The annual comprehensive processing and utilization of fresh bamboo amounts to 600,000 tons. Of this, more than 450,000 tons of fresh bamboo are utilized from surrounding counties and cities such as Hitong, Tongdao, Hongjiang, Zhongfang, Suining, Liping, and Jinping. This has collectively benefited over 11,000 forestry and agricultural households in the region, generating employment for more than 17,000 individuals and increasing the average income of rural residents by over 28,000 yuan.
